What made a career public servant pivot to start a creative, home-based business specializing in handmade candles and home fragrances?

Because I promised Mom I would take care of her in her elderly years. My full-time job is ensuring she is safe and well-cared for in our home. Yet a creative outlet was missing. So I turned my love of candles into a cottage business that could allow me to make pretty things while providing an income for our lives.

What's in a name? History. Nostalgia. The values of those who came before.

I was inspired by the home my mom grew up in, a converted carriage house from the 1880s. Not just an old barn made into house, but a home where my grandmother never let anything go to waste. That value, the idea of taking something old and making it new. Repurposing. Upcycling. Seeing what could be in what is. That's the spirit of The Old Carriage House.

Natural, non-toxic materials. No unnecessary additives. Made in the USA. Minimal packaging. Compostable, recyclable, re-usable materials.

Fancy is nice. Fancy is pretty. But fancy can also be wasteful. At The Old Carriage House, I don't do fancy. I take a minimalist approach to all my products because I believe that we owe the next generation a clean, healthy planet. My Promise is that my products will be pure and uncomplicated.
